Fix permalink/slug “-2” append

After deleting/trashing a previous page with the same permalink, You cannot make a page save its permalink without the “-2” added to the end.

To fix this problem you have to empty your wordpress page trash.

1. Navigate to the administrator dashboard

2. Click on Pages, followed by All pages

3. At the top of the All Pages webpage you will find Trash, click on it.

4.  Mark the pages you want to delete, change the dropdown to Delete Permanently and hit Empty Trash

5. Go back to the page your tried to rename, when everything went well you can now rename them again without the “-2” .

What does one do when this doesn’t work? I’ve emptied the trash, deleted the post and tried to recreate it and it still changes to breakfast-2

I even tried naming the page breakfast-3, saving, then changing to breakfast… but it still reverts to breakfast-2 when I try to name the page “breakfast”

I am having the same problem. I have a page that I simply updated, and it changed the slug from /slug/ to /slug-3/ and I cannot change it back. The original slug is not numerical, nor is anything in my trash. I never even deleted the original page!

Do you have a solution for this yet?

      Mmm, that’s strange.
I had the same and this solved it for me.
But I can try to help you and update this post with an other solution.

Send me an e-mail with some more information if you want: [email protected]
