Debian Ralink AP mode

Ralink 3070 ap mode

To place a network interface into AP mode you need the proper software. This problem happens more often to Backtrack or Kali-Linux distributions when using the WiFly-City G2000.

The following solution will install the right driver so you Ralink WiFi card can be placed into AP mode.

1. Add a “non-free” component to /etc/apt/sources.list

2. Update the list of available packages and install the firmware-ralink package:

3. Connect the Ralink wireless device to your system

4. The Ralink kernel module will automatically be loaded and your device is ready to act as an Access Point.

I used the following code for Hostapd with a WiFly-City G2000N (Ralink 3070 chipset)
